DAYCARE FOR BABIES & TODDLERS
(Ages 0-4 years)
If you are a working family or just want to have a little bit of time for yourself, there are several daycare options for children ages 0-4 in Delft. Depending on your budget and your needs, you can find a solution that works for you.
TYPES OF DAYCARE
Créche / kinderdagverblijf / kinderopvang – childcare centers typically open 7:30-18:00. Hourly rates change each year and are generally set based on the kinderopvangtoeslag allowed amount. Children may attend a creche anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week. There is often a long waiting list for a place (in the center that is) so you should apply as soon as possible. Some days offer more availability than others (Wednesdays and Fridays), should you have flexibility in which days you choose as Dutch parents generally are choosing those days to be free from work and spend time with their children.
Gastouders – If you are looking for smaller group or in-home care, gastouders (nannies) may be the best solution for you. There are several gastouderbureaus (nanny service centers) in Delft and you can contact them directly for information on their rates and services. The Gemeente Delft website has links to them. If you use a registered gastouder you can apply for a toeslag to offset the costs.
Peuterspeelzaal – children ages 2-4 are eligible to attend toddler playgroups. These groups help children develop the necessary skills as they prepare to attend primary school. Children may attend anywhere from 2 to 3 days per week from 3 to 5 hours per day. Costs for the playgroups vary depending on the income and employment situation of the family and are eligible for the toeslag.
